Amaranthus spinosus Native to the lowland tropics in the America’s spiny Amaranth is an upright, often full summer annual that grows to heights of 2–5 feet. Sharp spines appear at each leaf node and stems and leaves are smooth and typically shiny in appearance. Note that stems are flexible, and can be easily cut with strong, heavy-duty clippers.
